Helping stolen pets saved from the dog meat trade find a new life
Phu Quoc Ridge is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the well being of dogs rescued from the capture and torture inflicted on them thru the dog meat trade in Vietnam. We are based in Greenwood, South Carolina and operate from a 325 acre wilderness sanctuary. Our goals are to find homes for these dogs that are ready to trust humans again. For the ones that have been too traumatized to live a healthy life with a family, we keep and care for them for the rest of their lives.
Because many of the dogs from Vietnam are mixed with the local dog breed, Phu Quoc, there may be some training that should be done for the people that will take them into their homes.
Many of the dogs we take in are a stolen pet to someone in Vietnam. Most of the dog meat trade industry in Vietnam is fueled by dog thieves snatching, poisoning or electrocuting someone’s pet. The value to a restaurant for a stolen dog is about $10. When you take into account that an average wage for an unskilled worker is $8-$12 a day, it is not hard to figure out why so many do it.

These dogs need a healthy place to go after being rescued. In many cases the rescue teams are overwhelmed with dogs in need of a safe place, but they never turn a dog away. Often shelters become over crowded, especially around Tet and major Vietnamese holidays.
As part of the dogs recovery there needs to be peace and meaningful human contact. This can be difficult if there is chaos in the shelter. We aim to get our dogs out of Vietnam as soon as reasonably possible and start the healing and recovery process. Since all of our dogs are coming from Vietnam there are significant expenses involved in getting them to our rehabilitation center in South Carolina. We utilize corporate sponsors to pay for things like fundraising and advertising, but count on private donations to support the direct needs of each dog. Please consider donating today and help a deserving dog find a new life. You can donate on our Facebook page here- https://www.facebook.com/Phu-Quoc-Ridge
