What is a Phu Quoc Ridgeback?
The Phu Quoc Ridgeback is a breed of dog that originated on the Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam’s southern Kien Giang Province. These dogs love to run and hunt, and are fierce protectors of their home. The Phu Quoc is an incredibly smart breed, who love to learn and are incredibly curious.
They traditionally come in 4 main colors; spotted, black, yellow, and striped, with black eyes and a black spotted tongue. They weigh between 25-44 lbs and measures up to 22 inches. Their most notable feature, from which they are named, is the hair that runs along their back in the opposite direction as the rest of their coat, hence the name “ridgeback.”
